I-CIVIC is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Staff Exchange project funded under Horizon Europe. It promotes democratic education, critical digital literacy, and inclusive civic participation through innovative pedagogical approaches.

Objectives

To support stronger and more inclusive democratic participation across Europe, we aim to achieve four key objectives that guide our research, development, and training activities.

Objective 1 (O1): Understand and Address the Gaps in Democratic Education
We aim to identify why civic engagement among young people is declining by examining current educational practices. This includes spotting what is missing in teaching critical thinking, civic participation, and inclusion, as well as understanding how misinformation and unequal access to education affect young people’s ability to engage in democracy.

Objective 2 (O2): Create Innovative Tools and Educational Frameworks
We aim to develop practical teaching models and digital literacy tools informed by education, psychology, sociology, and political science. These tools will help students recognize misinformation, take part in democratic processes, and connect learning in schools with learning in their communities.

Objective 3 (O3): Build Inclusive and Scalable Educational Practices
We aim to create a network of researchers, educators, and policymakers to promote democratic education that is both inclusive and scalable. By designing culturally sensitive approaches, we aim to support fair access to learning, empower underrepresented groups, and strengthen community cohesion across Europe.

Objective 4 (O4): Provide Excellent Training and Supervision
We aim to offer high-quality training for Early-Stage and Experienced Researchers. This includes interdisciplinary research methods, digital literacy, community-based practices, and key skills such as communication, collaboration, and policy engagement—preparing researchers to lead impactful work in democratic education.
